What We Offer: Brief Neuropsychological Assessment in Perth
Our vision is to bring neuropsychology assessment and support to a broader range of people. Comprehensive neuropsychology assessments are not required for everyone and are costly and time consuming.
Led by clinical neuropsychologist, Dr Sherilyn Tan, our brief neuropsychological assessment provides an overview of your thinking skills and how they relate to everyday behaviour, functioning, and emotions. Sherilyn is trained to assess and understand the complex relationship between brain function and behaviour.
Using validated, tailored cognitive tests, we assess areas such as attention, memory, language, processing speed, and problem-solving.
These assessments are designed to be accessible, more cost-effective than typical comprehensive assessments, and targeted, helping you:
- Understand changes in your cognitive abilities (e.g., due to ageing, injury, or illness).
- Clarify how sleep or mental health may be affecting your cognition — or vice versa.
- Document your baseline functioning for future comparison (e.g., for athletes or individuals at higher risk of change).
Please note: Brief neuropsychological assessments are shorter and more focused than comprehensive assessments. They are not intended for complex diagnostic, capacity, or medico-legal purposes.
The Assessment Process
1. Intake Interview
(50min consultation)
This conversation with your clinician is to understand your background, clinical history, and current concerns. Here, we also explore what’s working well, what’s getting in the way, and what you’d like to achieve from the assessment and any support we provide.
2. Targeted Assessment
A range of tasks — verbal, written, or computer-based — tailored to your needs. The full assessment takes around two hours.
3. Brief Report & feedback A concise written report with recommendations will be provided (usually ~2 pages). If required, further in-depth testing may be advised. A separate one hour feedback session will also be offered.
4. Support Sessions Follow-up sessions may include:
- Strengthen areas of cognitive difficulty.
- Learn strategies to compensate for weaker areas.
- Build a lifestyle and routines that support focus, memory, and confidence.
- Improve your day-to-day effectiveness and wellbeing.
- Leveraging your strengths
- Training in memory, attention, and learning techniques.
- Cognitive pacing and fatigue management.
- Planning, organisation, and problem-solving strategies.
