Dr Olivia Carter

I have been working as a Clinical Psychologist for the past decade after completing my postgraduate training at The University of Western Australia and initially working full-time within public health for several years. I then joined the wonderful team at Jeffery & Ree Clinical Psychology part time in 2020 and have greatly enjoyed expanding the scope of my clinical work and supporting a diverse range of clients with varying concerns.

My approach to therapy is both warm and professional, and I’m deeply committed to working collaboratively with clients to help them make meaningful progress toward their goals. I have experience supporting adults and older adolescents, both individually and in group settings, across a broad range of presentations including:

  • Mood disorders (e.g., depression)
  • Anxiety (e.g., chronic worry, social anxiety, phobias, panic)
  • Overthinking and rumination
  • Stress and burnout
  • Sleep difficulties (e.g., insomnia)
  • Problematic dieting, body image concerns, and challenges in the relationship with food

(Please note: we are unable to provide treatment for eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa)

I deliver evidence-based, effective therapy that grounded in well-established research, while always tailoring treatment to suit each client’s unique needs. My work is primarily informed by Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and I have additional training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Schema Therapy, and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT). I have a particular interest in Metacognitive Therapy (MCT)-a CBT-based approach that is especially effective for individuals who find themselves stuck in cycles of worry or rumination.

I remain actively involved in psychological research through my work on public health and am passionate about continually improving treatment outcomes. I’ve contributed to several peer-reviewed publications and stay current with the latest developments in the field. I also support the broader profession through my involvement in professional associations and committees.
